Southern California Edison Kennedy Buildings 2&3
Structural seismic upgrade of 24 tube steel lateral “K” braces to meet current seismic codes. Scope of work consists of cutting open the top of braces to fill the 16” x 16” x 47’-0” tube steel brace with 4000 psi concrete. Each brace requires two separate pours to mitigate the amount of head pressure present at the bottom of each brace from the weight of the concrete. Both buildings involved are occupied and require this work to take place during the weekend hours to minimize the impact to each tenant. These building are being upgraded to accommodate two massive photovoltaic (solar) plants that will be placed on the roof top of each building. The total square footage of each building is just under 860,000 square feet.
